Privacy
Privacy notice for journalists
If you're a journalist and we've told you that your professional details are on Ascribd, this page explains what we hold, why, and how to change or remove it.
In short
- We hold your work details only: name, outlet, role, work email and the topics you cover.
- We use them to match you with businesses whose stories fit your beat — nothing else.
- We don't write pitches with AI, and we never sell or export lists of contacts.
- To be removed, reply "remove" to any email from us or write to privacy@ascribd.ai.
Who we are
Ascribd is a PR platform that connects journalists with relevant businesses and spokespeople. It is run by Westworld PR Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14914271), registered office 201 West Malvern Road, Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14 4BB. Westworld PR Ltd is the controller of the information described on this page. You can contact us about it at privacy@ascribd.ai.
What we hold about you
- Your name, publication and role.
- Your work email address, and work phone number where it is published.
- The topics and sectors you cover, and your region if you write for regional titles.
- Links to, and short summaries of, articles you've published.
- Any preferences you tell us about, such as topics you want or don't want to hear about.
We don't hold home addresses, personal social media accounts or sensitive information about you, and we don't record views we might infer about your politics or beliefs.
Where it comes from
Our founder's own professional contacts; your published bylines and articles; your outlet's website; and anything you tell us directly.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your details to show you to PR teams and businesses on Ascribd only when their story matches what you cover, and to keep your details accurate and up to date.
Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: connecting journalists with relevant, expert sources and cutting down irrelevant pitches. We have assessed that this use doesn't override your rights, given that it involves only professional information and you can opt out at any time. If you fill in our preferences form, we also rely on your consent for the kinds of pitches you've asked for.
Who sees it
Vetted users of Ascribd — PR agencies and in-house communications teams — inside the platform only. They can't download or export contact lists.
Our service providers process the information on our behalf under contract, for hosting, databases, email, automation, and the AI tools that summarise your published articles. They include Airtable, Make, Microsoft, Vercel, Anthropic and OpenAI. Some are based outside the UK, including in the United States; where your information is transferred abroad, we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires.
How long we keep it
For as long as you're active in your field. We re-check details every 12 months and delete contacts we can't verify. If you ask to be removed, we keep only your name and email address on a suppression list, so that we never add you again.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it. You have an absolute right to stop any use of your information for marketing.
To use any of these rights, reply to any email from us (reply "remove" to be taken off) or write to privacy@ascribd.ai. We act on removal requests within 48 hours and on other requests within one month.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first at privacy@ascribd.ai. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and respond in full as soon as we can. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
